At Idle C.E. (A) Primary School, children are able to explore and discover about the past; they gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world. We intend to inspire all our pupils’ curiosity to know more about the past. In KS1, children’s imaginations are captured by studying interesting aspects of history and historical figures. They get to understand their place in history, by discovering the history of our school and Idle village. They explore how items have changed over time and what has shaped the world we live in today. From Year 3, children study historical periods chronologically, to help enforce their understanding of a timeline and how historical periods and events from around the world are placed on it. By teaching history using a cross-curricular approach, children are able to portray their historical knowledge through different lessons, such as formal letter writing, diaries and stories in English. Through educational visits and workshops in school, children are able to study artefacts and resources to enable history to really come alive.
