T & A Report on ex-pupil Jack Stanley
GYMNAST Jack Stanley put in a stellar performance to win two gold medals and three silvers at the Under-14 English Gymnastics Championships.
Stanley particularly excelled on the pommel and the vault, coming out on top in both those events, and was a narrow second on floor, rings and in the all-round competition.
The Bradford youngster had a busy weekend as he also competed in two other events, the parallel bars and high bar. He achieved fourth and eighth place respectively in those disciplines, both highly commendable efforts.
Stanley's recent performances have not gone unnoticed and he has been shortlisted for the Bradford Sports Awards in the Under-18 Young Male Sportsperson category.
Also, for the second year running, he is a member of the Great Britain elite performance squad.
He is in good hands as he is trained by Dave Murray, who also coaches Olympic and Commonwealth medal-winner Nile Wilson, who is from Pudsey.
The year nine pupil studies at Immanuel College but still finds time to train 27 hours each week at City of Leeds Gymnastics and has impressed many, including his mum, with his dedication to the sport.
Could Stanley follow in Wilson's footsteps and find himself on the podium on the world stage in the future? His performances so far suggest he is a boy who could go right to the top.
